How to edit a PDF for free
PDFs have a reputation for being uneditable — but that hasn't been true for years. You can rewrite the text inside a PDF, drop in new text and images, and export a clean file, all from your browser.
Editing the existing text
1. Open the free PDF editor below and upload your file.
2. Choose Edit text — every line of text on the page becomes an editable box.
3. Click any text to rewrite it, change its size, or recolor it.
4. Export, and your changes are baked into a standard PDF.
This works on digitally created PDFs. Scanned documents are photographs of text, so there's no text layer to edit — you'd cover the old text with new boxes instead.
Adding content on top
Choose Annotate mode to keep the original untouched and layer new elements over it: text boxes, images, highlights, shapes, arrows, even freehand drawing. It's ideal for filling forms that were never made fillable, stamping notes on drafts, or signing your name with the draw tool.
Rearranging and cleaning up
